Fuel Injectors and What they Do

If you’re curious about how to clean fuel injectors, you may be pleased to know that this task can be done in a few easy steps. You’ll need to gather a few items before you begin. Once you’ve assembled everything needed for the job, the steps involved are relatively simple.

The first step is gathering the items needed for this basic auto maintenance project:

  • commercial fuel injector cleaner (kits may be found in most auto supply stores)
  • screw driver (using a long variety is advisable)
  • owner’s manual for your vehicle

You should be able to locate the fuel injectors by consulting the owner’s manual that came with your vehicle (if you don’t have one, you can likely find such a manual online). Before you begin, be sure to disable the fuel pump and replace it temporarily with a U-tube (in order to ensure that the fuel will still go into the tank). Once you’ve done this, simply follow the instructions that come with the kit.

Be sure to replace the fuel cap when the job is done, and don’t forget to drive the vehicle when you’re finished (so you can determine whether it is running as smoothly as it should). If it isn’t, then a trip to your local auto repair shop might be advisable. However, by following the directions that come with the cleaner kit, you can generally learn how to clean fuel injectors without hassle.
